AWS Appstream – Security-compliant use of business apps with personal devices
What does app streaming mean?
With the help of app streaming, companies can use their business applications without a remote desktop – regardless of whether it is an office package, a CRM solution or a proprietary application based on Linux or Microsoft Windows. Often, a VDI solution, such as AWS WorkSpaces, is offered with a virtual desktop.
How do I access the applications?
If a virtual desktop is not required, streaming applications can be opened with AWS AppStream either in a web browser or with the AWS AppStream client. The applications run on an AWS data center infrastructure that neither users nor IT professionals have direct touchpoints. Imagine logging on to a platform like LinkedIn, for example. You can access any of your business applications just as easily.
How secure is the service?
Of course, security is a major issue for these published services. However, in streaming applications are made available in the same way as in a classic VDI solution. Thus, they are just as secure from a security point of view. Multi-factor authentication and synchronized Active Directory users are often declared as “must have”.
