SAP S/4HANA 2023 – What changes with the new release?

The new SAP S/4HANA 2023 release has just been released! This applies to both SAP S/4HANA Cloud, Private Edition and SAP S/4HANA on premise. What changes and innovations do customers expect when they switch to a release? This post provides an insight into the new release strategy and highlights of the new release at application level.

New release strategy

First of all, SAP is changing its release and maintenance strategy with the new release. Until now, we were used to releasing SAP S/4HANA once a year, but from now on, we will only release a new release every other year. During these two years, SAP will deliver new feature packs approximately every six months. This will make the latest innovations, enhancements and optimizations available to customers even faster, simpler and cheaper to implement than with a release change. In addition, business interruption is minimized, allowing customers to implement innovations at their own pace even more flexibly. seven years instead of five.

For customers who are using older releases (1709, 1809, and 1909) of SAP S/4HANA in an on-premise environment and are approaching the end of five years of maintenance, SAP offers the option of “Extended Maintenance” for the period from 2023 to 2025. For customers wishing to switch to RISE with SAP, SAP offers “Extended Maintenance” free of charge and encourages customers to move to the cloud.

Warehousing and shipping

  • Calculation of greenhouse gas emissions in manual planning and automatic vehicle scheduling and provision
  • Extended shipping and receiving in decentralised warehouse: seamless end-to-end process for transporting and storing products in decentralised warehouse environments - Intuitive cockpit for warehouse operators

Production

  • New app “Evaluate Capacity”: visually check the capacity situation of workplaces and group them by workgroup. Expand capacity planning with capacity planning table and manage workplace capacity.
  • Advanced Scheduling Board: ASB displays level information for warehouse resources in the resource table. The alert function in ASB has been extended to check if there are problems in the current production schedule. DS Optimizer (Detailed Scheduling Optimizer) has been integrated into ASB and can be launched interactively within ASB.

Distribution

  • Role-based access to pricing elements: Control access by business users to pricing elements of receipts. Configure access levels and settings for the respective roles.
  • suspension of product evaluation initiated by reimbursement: delay in the returns item until the last logistical follow-up activity is confirmed in the inspection.

Finance

  • Automated monitoring of final theses with account balance check
  • Predictive liquidity forecasting (closer integration of SAP Analytics Cloud with SAP S/4HANA) – Predictive functions
  • Multi-level configuration of product bundles with advanced variant configuration (for complex subscription product structures)
  • Electronic consistency checks of documents (automated) with documents stored in the system of tax authorities
