AzubiTV – Social Media with SPIRIT

At SPIRIT/21, training is a top priority – almost a tenth of our employees are students and trainees. Many of our current managers started their careers with us even as young people on the first day of training. Therefore, the current members of the training department are naturally also predestined to help to address future generations.

But how do you reach young people, especially since in times of a pandemic there could not be face-to-face classes or classic job fairs for schoolgirls? Through social media!

Each social media platform offers different ways to generate and present content. Popular among young people today include Instagram, YouTube and Facebook. With the aim of spreading SPIRIT/21 and especially their career opportunities , a dedicated Instagram career channel was created three years ago.

In addition, a training editorial team has been set up, consisting of apprentices and students from different years of training, occupations and courses of study, with the aim of reaching out to potential apprentices and students. People who do not know SPIRIT/21 often ask themselves: “What is the company like?” “What is the company culture?” “How does training work within SPIRIT/21 work?”. Who better to answer these questions than the apprentices and students themselves?

For the members of the team, social media was initially completely new in the business context, even though they often use the platforms privately. Therefore, our editorial team was delighted to receive the active support of Tom Pützer, one of the recruiters of SPIRIT/21, who brings a lot of expertise in the field of social media. The first editorial meeting at the end of 2020 marked the final start of the idea gathering and elaboration of the articles.. With the first Instagram postings more and more a direction in terms of content design developed. One challenge was to summarize complex information in simple graphics and at the same time to arouse curiosity. In addition, there was a desire to make such an Instagram channel interactive and to involve a wide range of employees. This is the only way to convey the culture of our company and to make it possible to experience the coexistence of our employees. But how could we manage not only to have fun creating the content but also to arouse interest? It soon became clear that we needed our own format!

In addition to an initial series of pictures presenting the apprenticeships, an employer branding series with small videos was also planned. The original idea of this campaign was to spontaneously walk around the offices and ask employees from different areas and fields of activity questions - questions about their everyday work or about themselves. Based on the existing employee videos from 2019, the idea has now been put into concrete form - the birth of SPIRIT/21 AzubiTV! From collecting ideas to creating the editorial plan to post-production, all areas of responsibility were handled by the editorial team. team itself.

In order to be able to shoot AzubiTV during the Corona period, a small group – the “production team” – was formed. After only two weeks, the film was shot for the first time (corona-compliant, of course). Unfortunately, not quite as spontaneous as originally intended, but at least “staged spontaneously”. There were no fixed roles in the production. During the first shoot, Tom Pützer was our director and thus, mutely, became the production manager. The second camera was handed over to me and the microphone fell into Julian Schaibel’s hands.

In keeping with the ADV Company Presentation Day*, Lars Leupold, Head of Software Development at SPIRIT/21, agreed to take part in a short interview as a test subject. He did not know the questions beforehand. This is important to us in all interviews, because it allows emotions and reactions to be evoked and captured in the interviewees.

After further shootings, there was more and more flow and security within the production team. The core team, consisting of Tom Pützer, Timo Schanz, Glenn Reimold and myself, adjusted well to each other. When planning, the editorial plan defined in advance is always taken into account. This is based on current events and potential fields of interest of future applicants.

“What topics do we want to cover next, and who could talk about them?” is the central question before each shoot. It is not always easy to find a suitable date, because vocational school days or theory periods often overlap. So voting is usually done digitally via Microsoft Teams.

In spite of the difficult conditions caused by the corona pandemic as well as the theoretical and practical phases of the apprentices and students, we managed to already five interviews and at the same time exceeded our expectations. Slip-ups or interruptions (so-called outtakes) were shot in a targeted manner. All the shoots were very spontaneous and did not have a narrow concept, script or script. Questions were considered and asked before or during the shoot. Only the sets and characters, as well as the timing, were determined before the shoot.

So far, the result is varied videos** that give a good insight into everyday working life and cooperation at SPIRIT/21. What does the outlook look like towards the future? What can we expect from AzubiTV? It is clear that the format will not stop. In the future, the original idea of conducting interviews in everyday working life is to be implemented even more strongly, because AzubiTV makes our company and our culture tangible and tangible!**

Thanks also to the whole team and all participants! #weareSPIRIT
