SAP integration during operation

Integration of adult individual solutions into a central SAP system

By using templates, companies can standardise and automate their processes in the SAP system, which leads to increased efficiency, as predefined structures and workflows reduce implementation time and ensure consistent use.

Initial Situation

Our customer is a global manufacturing company. In addition to various standard IT solutions, the group also worked with individual developments that were limited in terms of functionality and future-proofing and made standardised data exchange difficult.

The challenge of integrating isolated solutions into a centralised system

All Central and Eastern European locations were to be integrated into a centralised SAP environment. Isolated solutions were to be replaced by common standards. It was important to the customer that our experts not only mastered SAP, but also knew the customer-specific processes such as ETO, MTO, MTS, ATO, variant configuration and the procedure for monthly closings. The implementation took place in productive operation: over 3,000 users in 18 countries were already working with SAP and were of course expected to continue to do so without disruption during the project phase.

Implementation and approach during ongoing operations

As the IT service provider with overall responsibility, SPIRIT/21 implemented all business processes for accounting and the logistics chain in the central SAP system for Europe. Important project steps during the ongoing productive operation were

  • Conducting workshops with the key users on site to present the template processes and identify the gaps
  • Customising the template processes and additional processes
  • Carrying out the integration test
  • Developing the migration programmes and carrying out the migration

The advantages of a centralised SAP system

Today, our customer works throughout Europe with a standardised SAP system for accounting (finance and controlling) and supply chain management (sales, materials management, production, customer service). All processes are highly integrated and standardised within the Group. The high level of integration between the various Group companies increases efficiency and helps the customer to secure investments for the future.
