DEVICE MANAGEMENT FOR APPLE END DEVICES

Everything from a single source: setup, operation, support & contract management

TORC Europe GmbH, founded in 2021 and with a technology and software development centre in Stuttgart’s Untertürkheim district, is continuously expanding its team. The newly recruited software and development engineers are increasingly being equipped with Apple devices. To ensure smooth management of these devices, TORC was looking for a comprehensive solution partner and found the ideal partner in SPIRIT/21 for an all-round carefree package for iPhone and Mac device management.

Initial situation

TORC Europe is a wholly owned subsidiary of TORC Robotics, an independent subsidiary of Daimler Truck headquartered in Blacksburg, USA. TORC and Daimler Truck are jointly pursuing the goal of developing autonomous trucks for long-haul transport and putting them on the road within this decade.

Onboarding new employees has been a top priority for TORC from the outset. In order to be able to provide the necessary services as quickly as possible, the basic processes first had to be defined and the associated infrastructure set up. In the start-up phase, it was not possible to do this without manual interim solutions, as the technical requirements were not yet in place. To avoid friction losses right from the start, the IT management therefore decided to place the entire Apple end device management in competent external hands. The TORC managers were very familiar with SPIRIT/21 from previous EMM projects in the automotive sector. It therefore made sense to entrust the Böblingen-based IT service provider with this task.

Range of services: Enterprise Mobility Management

SPIRIT/21’s EMM full-service package included the setup, operation and remote support for Apple device management and the associated process consulting. In addition to configuring the mobile device management system, SPIRIT/21 also took on the design and implementation of all associated processes - from the individual preparation of the devices to their deletion in compliance with data protection regulations. The tasks of the external EMM team included in particular the procurement and delivery of the hardware, installation of the application software, asset management, ordering and administration of the mobile phone contracts, training and troubleshooting.

SPIRIT/21 also provides support in setting up Linux client management.

Advantages of a full-service EMM package

The implementation of the MDM system has been successfully completed and responsibility has been transferred from the consulting team to the operations team. TORC is now able to manage its mobile devices centrally. With the help of standardised processes, new devices can be registered quickly, programs can be made available company-wide at the same time and software updates can be carried out automatically. Devices or functions can be locked and unlocked centrally as required. Standardised security measures increase device security and company data is better protected.
