The end of InfoPath Forms Services: What companies should know and do now

Microsoft has officially announced the end of support for InfoPath Forms - with far-reaching consequences for companies that continue to rely on this technology. InfoPath will no longer be available from July 14, 2026 at the latest. The need for action is now high: organizations must analyze their existing InfoPath forms, evaluate suitable alternatives and initiate a structured migration.

What is InfoPath and why is the end of support relevant?

InfoPath was originally developed to create customized electronic forms that integrate data from various sources and can be incorporated into business processes. Many companies have built InfoPath solutions over the years - often deeply integrated into their processes.

As of July 14, 2026, the use of InfoPath Forms Services in SharePoint Online as well as in SharePoint Server 2016, 2019, and the Subscription Edition will be discontinued – usage in the Microsoft Cloud will no longer be possible, and Microsoft will end vendor support for on-premises environments.

Recommended measures: Approach migration strategically now

Microsoft recommends switching to modern alternatives at an early stage - in particular Power Apps, Power Automate or Microsoft Forms. Third-party solutions can also be considered depending on the use case.

Three steps to a successful changeover:

  1. Inventory: Which InfoPath forms are in use? Which data sources and workflows are integrated?
  2. Evaluate alternatives: Depending on the complexity and requirements, it is important to identify suitable solutions - e.g. Power Apps for interactive forms or Power Automate for workflow components.
  3. Migration planning: A structured plan with prioritization, timeframe and resource requirements is crucial for a smooth transition.

Take action now - for future-proof processes

The discontinuation of InfoPath is an opportunity to modernize established structures. If you act now, you will create the basis for secure, scalable and cloud-compatible business processes.
