The 6R strategy – your options for cloud migration

The 6R strategy originates from the Gartner model for cloud migration, which describes various strategies for moving applications to the cloud. It helps to analyze existing IT landscapes and select the appropriate migration strategy for each application. The focus is not only on technical aspects, but also on economic and organizational factors.

The six strategies – rehost, replatform, refactor, retire, retain, and repurchase – cover a wide range of possibilities: from the rapid relocation of existing systems to complete redevelopment. This allows both short-term goals such as cost reduction and long-term requirements such as scalability and innovation capability to be taken into account.
