With Greenfield to S/4HANA
One of the most discussed topics in SAP, today and in the coming years, is the move to S/4HANA. Medium-sized companies in particular are facing major challenges. With the Greenfield sup> transformation approach, SPIRIT/21 has developed a process model especially for companies that want to convert their SAP environment to SAP S/4HANA in a simple, time- and effort-optimized manner. More complex further development projects can then be carried out if necessary. in a next step, after the SPIRIT/21 Greenfield sup> “Lean Transformation”, will be implemented - tailored to the company’s needs and using the SAP S/4HANA platform, which will then already be available productively.
The prerequisites
The greenfield sup> approach is suitable for companies that meet one or more of the following points:
- Your business processes are already satisfactory to well mapped in SAP today.
- You have been using SAP for a long time.
- It is unclear whether your current SAP system is already ‘S/4HANA-ready’.
- Archiving is not yet a top priority in the company.
- Preliminary projects have to be carried out in order to prepare for an S/4HANA conversion.
- It is not transparent what efforts and costs are associated with switching to S/4HANA.
The project steps
Step 1 – Preparation and concept definition
In the first step, the existing system is examined for its current status. To this end, we check whether the readiness check provided by SAP is already feasible or whether it must first be made available via instructions. As soon as the readiness check is functional, it is carried out as a first check. It provides a large number of insights into which activities are necessary in the existing system on the way to S/4HANA. On this basis, we then work together with you to determine which changes or further developments are required for the new S/4HANA system and develop a corresponding delta concept.
Step 2 – Detailed planning and implementation
The current status of all active and required processes is selectively transferred to the new SAP S/4HANA system. These system settings are then supplemented by all absolutely necessary innovations and changes, such as the new General Ledger or the introduction of the Business Partner System. Once the system has been set up and implemented, only the necessary master data as well as the data of the current financial year, such as balances, open items, orders or orders, are transferred via data migration.
Step 3 – Preservation of the existing SAP system (Data / Information Backup)
The “old” SAP system is “frozen” after the live start and made available, for example, in a cloud environment for ten years to meet the retention periods with read access only. Provision and access to this form of the archive system is provided by a secure logon process. After activation, the cloud service is automatically terminated at a specified time. This ensures that costs are only incurred when the system is actually used. (For more information, see SAP systems in the AWS Cloud.)
The advantages
Greenfield sup> saves a long and time-consuming conception phase, which can lead to high loads in the specialist departments. Only the identified, processual and functional “deltas” have to be conceptually developed and additionally implemented. In this way, further developments of processes can also be “designed” selectively and according to requirements. “Legacy issues”, i.e. processes that are no longer used or required, developments and outdated data, are not transferred to the new, productive system landscape. In addition, you are GDPR-compliant due to the usability of the historical data via the outlined archive system and also meet the legal retention periods with this simple and cost-effective solution.
With our SPIRIT/21 Greenfield sup> approach, we offer you an opportunity to follow your path to SAP S/4HANA in a plannable and controllable manner and with minimized effort under the framework conditions described.
