Getting started together: My first weeks at SPIRIT/21

Ben Richards, 18, began his dual study program in business administration and digital business management at the beginning of September, along with nine other students and trainees. In this blog entry, he describes his experiences and adventures during his first two weeks at SPIRIT/21.

Ten new faces, one goal. Let’s get started together!

Two weeks ago, after a “whole” two months of high school break, I finally started my dual study program at SPIRIT/21. It started on September 1, 2025—together with nine other new faces. Even though I’m the only business student among a bunch of IT folks, we all got along great right away. We quickly realized that we have more in common than you might think—from gaming to the gym, we’ve got it all covered.

A start with team spirit

We felt welcome from day one. Pia and Sarah, our training managers, really went out of their way to help us settle in right away. Instead of just dry information, there were fun tasks, little challenges, and team-building activities.

But wait a minute—who is SPIRIT/21 and what do they do?
Before I started, I was able to gather a few impressions at the information day, but I couldn’t really imagine what “IT services and consulting” meant. During the first week, it quickly became clear: SPIRIT/21 supports companies in almost all areas of digitalization – whether IT support, software development, cloud solutions, or SAP consulting.
But it wasn’t just a lecture-style course. Through exciting presentations and honest storytelling, our colleagues not only explained their jobs to us, but also gave us personal insights into their careers. This was not only interesting, but also extremely helpful in remembering all the information.

My conclusion after two weeks

Even though I’ve only been here a short time, I already feel really comfortable at SPIRIT/21. We have a strong team, complement each other perfectly, and have a lot of fun—and yes, the free ice cream certainly plays its part. My next stop will be DHBW Stuttgart, where I will acquire new theoretical knowledge that I can then apply in my next practical phase. I am really looking forward to the coming years and am excited to see what we will experience together.
